Similar to any other trademark type, a logo trademark must meet the following basic requirements:

  • It must be distinctive enough to identify the brand as a clear source of goods/services it offers, i.e. it cannot be merely descriptive of the offering.
  • It must not be visually confusable with other registered trademarks.

If you are not sure if your logo meets these requirements, you can use our free lawyer's check to find out.

It is recommended to register the version of your logo you use the most. Your logo may or may not include text - there's no requirement for that.

A logo trademark is often a good solution for businesses that cannot register a wordmark due to their business name being too descriptive.
